A local court Friday extended the police custody of a man wanted for over 300 vehicle thefts.

Manoj Bakkarwala, wanted for over 300 vehicle thefts during a 14-year career, was arrested in mid-January after a Bollywood-style escape from the police in 2009.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Manish Yaduvanshi remanded Bakkarwala to a day's police custody after expiry of his 10 days' custodial interrogration.

The carjacker, who allegedly started his criminal life in 1998, was first arrested the same year and then in 2003.

After being on bail, he was arrested in Haryana again in 2007 but escaped in July 2008.

On May 8, 2009, he gave the slip to Delhi Police after a gunfight despite being injured.
