Hip-hop group Outlandish to perform in India
Mumbai News.Net Friday 3rd July, 2009 (IANS)
Denmark-based award winning hip-hop group Outlandish is to perform in India.
Formed in 1997 by Isam Bachiri (of Moroccan descent), Waqas Ali Qadri (of Pakistani descent) and Lenny Martinez (of Cuban and Honduran descent), the trio have delivered hits like 'Aicha', 'Walou', 'Look into my eyes' and 'Rock all day'.
Known for being devoutly religious, Outlandish's hip-hop, R&B and soul music takes influences from their various backgrounds like Moroccan, Arab, Amazigh, Pakistan, Punjab and Latin America.
Despite singing in English, they usually also feature lyrics in Spanish, Urdu, Punjabi, Danish and Arabic.
The band often also includes themes about Islam and contemporary issues faced by young Muslims in the west in their music.
Organised by Bru Ice Cappuccino in association with Vh1 Handpicked, the band will perform at the Hard Rock Cafe in Mumbai, Delhi and Pune on July 8, 10 and 11 respectively.
'There is no doubt that Vh1 Handpicked is going to be our most exciting concert, since India is such a multi cultural country. It is deep felt and means a lot to us,' said Ali Qadri in a statement released here Friday. Email this story to a friend
